VOK DAMS & Sascha Lobo on Trend Tour 2010

Events & Social Media – user generated events

The Wuppertal event specialists of VOK DAMS continue the experience of the topic of event and social media on the second Trend Tour 2010. The live-marketing experts tackle the challenges and chances of social media in the field of marketing, as well as the link between real and virtual worlds at events in all German company locations – Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich, and Wuppertal. The Trend Tour is accompanied by one of the most famous German bloggers: Sascha Lobo.

Social networks are rapidly gaining in importance. An increasing number of people become active on the internet and use platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or YouTube to share content on the web or communicate with each other on a daily basis. Social media has an unmistakable and lasting effect on marketing.

During the VOK DAMS Trend Tour, the participants have the opportunity to learn about and try out strategic and practical new technologies and their possible applications in live-marketing, as well as seek advice from VOK DAMS Consulting on their individual questions relating to the topic.

Author, communications consultant on social media and one of the most famous German bloggers, Sascha Lobo, will talk about how Web X.0 has changed people’s expectations and attitudes and how these changes have affected brand communication. Digital natives, recommendation marketing and the wisdom of many are some of the topics Lobo will explore in his speech. Behind all this, however, there is the realization that companies who want to reach their target group must use social media. Although it is the taking part that counts; in the long run, mere participation is not enough.

Only a targeted application will ensure that companies use the full potential of social media, and events are an appropriate tool: “Social media and events are like twins – if the right people come together in the right environment, then a feeling of community and concomitant enthusiasm develops which do not exist anywhere else in the same way,” says Lobo.

This thesis is supported by findings of VOK DAMS Consulting, which David Korte, Grouphead Research at VOK DAMS, will present to the participants. “To reach 50 million people, the radio needed 38 years, the television 13 years, the internet 4 years, and Facebook 4 months,” says Korte about the potential of social networks. But that’s not the whole story: The integration potential of events and social media have already become evident. Augmented reality, that is, reality modified by web tools, or event walls are no longer distant dreams, but have become usable tools. In addition, apps and web-supported programs for the activation of participants offer exciting possibilities of integrating social media applications into events.
“By tackling the chances and challenges of social media and their effects on live-marketing, we are able to provide our clients with a comprehensive service in this field, ranging from consulting to developing and implementing a concept; and we are proud to do so,” says Colja M. Dams, CEO of the Wuppertal agency. “Facebook and Co. aren’t just temporary trends, but mean long-lasting change, and it is important to adjust to this change.”
